EDBT'98: CALL FOR PAPERS
VI Intl. Conference on Extending Database Technology
Valencia, Spain, 23-27 March, 1998
http://www-dbs.inf.ethz.ch/dbs/edbt98.html

Promoted by the EDBT Foundation

Organized by Departament de Sistemes Informatics i Computacio
(Universitat Politecnica de Valencia)

EDBT started ten years ago in Venice (1988), and since then it has been
successfully held every two years: Venice (1990), Vienna (1992), Cambridge
(1994), Avignon (1996). With its traditional emphasis in European
participation, the success of each one of its past editions has nevertheless
established EDBT as one of the leading international database conferences.
EDBT'98 will be held in Valencia, Spain, and will continue the tradition of
providing an open forum in which to discuss, from both an industrial and a
research perspective, new developments and applications of database technology.
Europe's strong database research community, as well as its leading technology
developers and many large commercial database users make EDBT'98 a highly
attractive conference. Among many others, some of the main topics that will
be addressed during EDBT'98 are:

Advanced database applications:
Multimedia and hypermedia database systems
Advanced user interfaces for data manipulation
Information resource dictionaries/repositories
Data mining in relational and spatial databases
Data warehousing, OLAP
Similarity and multidimensional search
Mobility and databases
Internet/Intranet services and databases
Transaction Processing:
Advanced transaction processing techniques
Transactions in the Internet
Transactions in distributed applications
Workflow management systems
Transactional services in distributed systems
Replication and availability in distributed systems
Scientific and statistical databases
Financial applications of databases
Database Architectures and Systems:

Papers/Tutorials/Panels Submission

Submitted papers must be unpublished, limited to 5000 words, and not be
under consideration for publication elsewhere during the review process.
Paper submission should be done electronically. Papers not following these
guidelines will only be accepted in very exceptional cases. Note that an
electronic abstract must be submitted before the paper is submitted. Detailed
information about the submission procedure can be found in the conference's
web page. The Conference Proceedings will be edited and published by
Springer Verlag (in the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series) and will
be distributed at the conference. Questions regarding the submission of
papers should be addressed to the program committee chair or the program
committee coordinator. Proposals for half-day tutorials and panels should be
sent to the corresponding chair.

Conference location (http://mistral.dsic.upv.es/~edbt98/)

Valencia is ensconced in fertile terrain on the shores of the Mediterranean
close to the mouth of the Turia river. Valencia and its environs constitute a
first rate tourist centre in both infrastructure and alternatives for the
discerning visitor. Of historical interest yet cosmopolitan, the city has
grown and adapted to the times conserving its rich heritage while becoming
a leading economic and financial centre in present day Spain. The conference
will be held at the Palau de Pineda (Universidad Internacional Menendez
Pelayo) and Palau del Marques de Vallejo (Universitat de Valencia-Estudi
General).
