The Center for Information Management, Integration and
Connectivity (CIMIC) at Rutgers Newark campus is currently seeking a
Research Assistant Professor to work in the area of Geographic
Information Systems. The individual selected for this position will be
involved in GIS research for a NASA supported Regional Validation
Center located on the Rutgers Newark campus in New Jersey. This
project involves the collection, validation and distribution of remote
sensing data and requires novel research in the areas of data
validation, image registration, feature recognition, environmental
monitoring and other remote sensing and GIS topics.
Dissemination of data to other research institutions and
agencies, and to educational institutions including regional K-12 will
also be facilitated through this project. This project is also
supported jointly by the Hackensack Medowlands Development Commission,
New Jersey for the next five years.
Potential applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. degree in Computer
Science or a related area. Practical experience in remote sensing
applications and experience with ARC/Info or other commercial GIS is
desirable. Candidates with a PhD degree in Environmental or Geological
sciences with software development experience will also be considered.
Researchers are expected to teach courses and seminars related to
remote sensing and GIS, and to participate in writing and submitting
grant proposals. Excellent written and oral communications skills
are required.
The position is available immediately and will last a minimum period
