Latex2rtf (here is a
recent tarball) is trivial to install and does not seem to depend
on anything non-basic:
tar zxf latex2rtf-1.9.14.tar.gz cd latex2rtf-1.9.14 make && make install
document.rtf
in
openoffice and save as "word"

The command sequence to initialize the mysql database and start the server, as stated in the manual, does not work.
You should also change the ownership of
/var/lib/mysql
after initializing the database and before starting the
server.
/usr/bin/mysql_install_db # initialize tables
cd /var/lib/mysql; chown -R mysql.mysql . # change ownership of database files
/usr/bin/safe_mysqld & # start server
mysqladmin -u root password 'newpassword' # set root password
