CALL FOR TUTORIALS

Maringa', PR - BRAZIL, October 12-14, 1998

http://www.dcc.unicamp.br/~mario/sbbd98-cft.html

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Program Committee of the XIII Brazilian Symposium on Databases solicits
tutorial proposals. Each tutorial will be presented in a 3 hrs section. The
language used can be Portuguese, English or Spanish.

The PC will consider proposals for advanced and basic tutorials, always
within the area of databases. Advanced tutorials must cover the state-of-the
art, motivate and expose potential research issues. The instructor material
(e.g., slides) should be, preferably, in English. As for basic tutorials the
proponent should target an audience consisting of advanced undergraduate and
graduate students, as well as people from industry. Hence, basic tutorials
can be thought of as "recycling" courses, but not as trivial ones.
Furthermore, basic tutorials should be given in Portuguese.

Abstracts (1-2 pages) of accepted tutorials will be published in the
Symposium proceedings. However, copies of presentation material (or lecture
notes) will also be required for distribution at the Symposium.

The Symposium covers travel and lodging expenses for one author of each
accepted tutorial, always subject to funding availability. The presenting
author is required to register with the Symposium.

The Program Committee of the XIII Brazilian Symposium on Databases reserves
the right to invite tutorials, which will not be subject to the selection
process this call for tutorials refers to. The Committee also reserves the
right to not select any of the submitted proposals.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Tutorial proposals should be submitted in English and must contain only the
following (please do not send slides/handouts):

* Tutorial title and the authors' name, affiliation and email.
* Type of tutorial (advanced or basic) and a one paragraph abstract .
* Outline of the tutorial, e.g.: section titles and abstracts thereof (at
most one paragraph for each such section).
* Main references utilized (maximum of 1 page).
* Where this tutorial (perhaps as shorter seminars or advanced courses)
has been presented before (or is under consideration).
* Author's qualifications (1 paragraph for each author).
* Special audio-visual needs (e.g., overhead projector).
* Supporting material to be distributed (e.g., author notes, copies of
slides, etc). We strongly recommend that such material can be made
available via WWW.

Proposals should be sent via e-mail only in a plain text file (i.e., no
postscript, LaTeX, etc) to the Tutorials Coordinator (see below).
