ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
--------------------

EDBT started ten years ago in Venice (1988), and since then it has been=20
successfully held every two years: Venice (1990), Vienna (1992),=20
Cambridge=20
(1994), Avignon (1996). With its traditional emphasis in European
participation,=20
the success of each one of its past editions has nevertheless
established EDBT=20
as one of the leading international database conferences. EDBT'98 will
be held=20
in Valencia, Spain, and will continue the tradition of providing an open
forum in=20
which to discuss, from both an industrial and a research perspective,
new=20
developments and applications of database technology. Europe's strong=20
database research community, as well as its leading technology
developers and=20
many large commercial database users make EDBT'98 a highly attractive=20
conference.

The Conference includes both high-standard research and industrial
sessions,=20
tutorials and three additional events:

* Spanish Conference on Databases (http://www.dsic.upv.es/~jidbd98)=20
* EDBT'98 Workshop on the Web and Databases
(http://poincare.inf.uniroma3.it:8080/webdb98)=20
* EDBT'98 Workshop on Workflow Management Systems=20
(http://www.cs.iupui.edu/~edbtwfms).
