Computer Science Department at Jackson State University invites
applications for a position as POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE.
This research position is available on a 2-year DOE-Funded project
entitled "Enabling Technology for Building High Performance
Distributed Information Storage and Retrieval Systems". The goal
of the research project is to develop novel methods of managing
large-scale inverted files using DPSS (Distributed-Parallel Storage
System; Developed at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) as a
high performance storage server.

Research issues being investigated include inverted file block
allocation and layout strategies, application-controlled cache
management, dynamic incremental updates of inverted files, and
hierarchical and dynamic reliability schems.

The project research will be conducted by close collaborations
with the DPSS research group at LBNL. As such, summer research
will be conducted at LBNL (1 to 2 months).

The Research Associate will work on the project with 2 PIs and 4 graduate
students. Salary is competitive. The grant includes provision for
attendance at relevant conferences and workshops. It also includes travel
support for attending research meetings and summer research activities
at LBNL.

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science/Engineering
or Information Systems with research background and interests in computer
systems, Database Systems, and distributed computing. Knowledge in
Information Storage and Retrieval System is a plus.
(Master degree holders with substantial system knowledge and
implementation skills are also considered).

Jackson State University is located in the heart of Jackson, Mississippi,
the capital and largest city of the state, and is one of the four major
universities in the State of Mississippi. Computer Science Department
in the School of Science and Technology at JSU is growing rapidly, and
offers B.S. and M.S. degree programs.

Interested candidates should contact Dr. Gwang S. Jung or
Dr. Qutaibah Malluhi. Applications should include a curriculum vitae,
a statement of the current research interests, and e-mail addresses of
three references.
