POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS IN SPATIO-TEMPORAL DATABASE SYSTEMS

The VERSO database group at INRIA, Rocquencourt, France (S. Abiteboul)
is a partner in the European TMR Research Network CHOROCHRONOS. Within
this project, postdoc positions are available.

The goal of CHOROCHRONOS is research on spatio-temporal database systems; our
more specific approach is the use of constraint databases for the
modelling and querying of multi-dimensional data. Spatial and
spatio-temporal applications are examples of applications we are
interested in. In
cooperation with CNAM University, Paris, a prototype Dedale of
spatio-temporal database system using the constraint database approach
has been designed and is operational.

Hence there is work to be done in the following areas:
- modelling and querying of mobile objects (objects whose location on
the 2D plane is changing with time),
- optimisation of constraint databases,
- indexation for spatio-temporal data in constraint databases,
- benchmarking
- spatial join evaluation
- fundamental issues in constraint databases
- etc.

Funding covers a post-doc for one year. Shorter
stays than one year will also be considered not only for postdoct but
also for PhD
students who almost completed their PhD program. Positions are available
immediately.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in computer science, or be in a PhD
program in Computer Science near completion and preferably a
strong background in database systems.

Due to the rules of EU TMR projects, candidates
- must be less than 35 years of age at the time of the appointment at the
hosting institution;
- must be a national of a Member State of the European Community or of an
Associated State (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, and Israel), but not of the
state of the hosting institution (France in this case).
