PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS

17th International Conference on Conceptual Modeling (ER'98)

Nov 16-19, 1998, Singapore
(Workshops: Nov 20)

http://www.iscs.nus.edu.sg/~er98

THE CONFERENCE
--------------
The international conceptual modeling conference provides an international
forum for technical discussion among researchers, developers, and users
whose major emphasis is on conceptual modeling. This conference was
originally devoted to the Entity-Relationship (ER) model, but has long since
expanded to include all types of semantic data modeling, behavior and
process modeling, and object-oriented systems modeling. The conference
embraces all phases of software development including analysis,
specification, design, implementation, evolution, and reengineering.

SUGGESTED TOPICS
----------------
Relevant topics for the ER'98 include, but are not necessarily limited to
the following:

Conceptual modeling for:

- integrating ER-, OO- etc. modeling
- database design methodologies
- data warehouse modeling
- information systems
- decision-support systems
- office-information systems
- information-retrieval systems
- hypertext systems
- information superhighways
- active databases
- heterogeneous and federated databases
- business process modeling
- knowledge bases
- multimedia
- user interfaces
- spatial and temporal data
- geographic information systems
- remote sensing, medical, biological and other data

Conceptual modeling in information system engineering

- CASE tools
- integrating application models
- rapid prototyping
- maintenance and evolution
- reverse engineering and reengineering
- workflow management

Theoretical foundations of conceptual modeling

- extending modeling concepts
- semantics and constraints
- query languages
- integrating data and behavior modeling
- integrating different types of conceptual models
- materialized view design and maintenance

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS
--------------------
Authors are cordially invited to submit original papers to one of the
Program Committee Co-Chairs by April 3, 1998. Manuscripts must be in English
and should not exceed 5000 words (approximately 20 double-spaced pages).
UNIX users should submit their files in postscript, and Mac/Windows users in
pdf format. Authors who are unable to make an electronic submission
(preferred) may submit five hard copies of the paper. A separate cover sheet
should be enclosed containing the title of the paper, the author(s) and
affiliation(s), and the address (including e-mail address and fax number) to
which correspondence should be sent.

We intend to publish the proceedings in the Springer LNCS series in time for
distribution at the conference. Authors of selected papers will be invited
to submit extended versions for possible publication in the Data & Knowledge
Engineering journal.
