Overview
The Internet is quickly moving from a marketing tool in which businesses
and organization promote sales and awareness, to a core element of any
information system architecture. The advent of the Internet as a
fundamental infrastructure for the delivery of advanced business
information systems has opened up a wide range of questions for the design
and development of such systems. This workshop focuses on Information
Systems that utilize the Internet as their primary architectural base or as
a secondary extension to existing information systems. This workshop will
serve as a forum to present and discuss early results and challenges of
innovative Internet-based applications.

A special track of the workshop will be devoted to the theme "Cooperative
Information Systems Design and the Internet". CISs involve large amounts of
information and a great number of users, possibly distributed along several
dimensions (such as time, location and work-context). The Internet has
opened for completely new forms of work and cooperation by changing the
ways that we share and distribute information. The special track on
Cooperative Information Systems and the Internet will focus on two main areas:

1. How to design cooperative information systems that support the new,
various, and dynamic forms of cooperation that have been made possible by
the Internet.
2. How it is possible to use the Internet as a technological infrastructure
for the development of Cooperative Information Systems.

Aims and Objectives
The workshop aims to bring together people with different backgrounds and
experiences, providing a forum for the discussion of a wide range of ideas
on Innovative Internet Information Systems. In keeping with this year's
CAiSE theme of "I.S. in Public Administration", of particular interest are
papers discussing P.A. systems that have been developed specifically for
the Internet, and papers discussing Public Administration policy issues
related to the use of the Internet as an information systems infrastructure.

Suggested topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- New Experimental, Commercial & Educational Systems
- Design methodologies for Internet-based information systems
- Public Administration Information Services on the Internet
- Public Policy Issues related to Internet applications
- Extending legacy information systems to the Internet
- Cross-border and multicultural issues for Internet I.S.
- Internet as an enabler for computer supported cooperative work
- Information and knowledge representation, visualization and brokering
- Methods, frameworks and tools for designing Cooperative Information Systems
- Agents for information management
- User involvement in the design of innovative Internet Information Systems

All papers are subject to peer review. By submitting a paper to this
workshop, you are indicating your agreement to provide a timely review of
two other workshop submissions. Papers should be between 3000 and 5000 words.

Selected papers from the Workshop will be published in the Journal of
Internet Research, MCB University Press.

The workshop will last two days and it will take place immediately before
CAiSE98. All participants in the Workshop are expected to register for
CAiSE98.
