INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON
KNOWLEDGE REPRESENTATION=20
FOR=20
INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA SYSTEMS=20

KRIMS II

=20
(http://www.math.aegean.gr/KRIMSII/KRIMSII.html)

In conjunction with the 6th International
Conference on=20
Principles of
Knowledge Representation and Reasoning=20
(KR'98)

TRENTO, ITALY, 1st of JUNE, 1998

Knowledge-based Interactive Multimedia Systems (IMS) possess and utilise
knowledge about their ownMeans and about the Function of user sessions:=20

Means denote the available communication channels, their contents
and characteristics. They comprise the user interface on one side (both
input and presentation components) and available interfaces to
information sources (static repositories as well as dynamic
computational agents) on the other.=20
The Function of user sessions denotes the mapping of the actual
information needs of users to the capabilities of the IMS. It comprises
models of users and their goals as well as of instantiated tasks,
including multimedia information search, retrieval, composition and
presentation.=20

IMS must support users in achieving their goals and performing their
tasks. They must be able to represent and reason about user intentions,
abilities, beliefs, actions and plans, in order to collaborate with
users effectively during determination of content and communication of
information:=20

Concerning determination of content, IMS must be able to assist
users in navigating possibly open and heterogeneous information worlds,
locating information sources, and retrieving, integrating and organising
information efficiently and effectively.=20

As far as communication of information is concerned, to design and
materialize a presentation, IMSs must reason about different
communication means (e.g. how to choose between, and how to co-ordinate,
different media and modalities), the function of presentations, and the
context of interactions with users.=20

Major topics to be addressed by KRIMS-II include:=20

-knowledge representation schemes for multimedia information
repositories supporting interactivity in content determination and/or
communication of information.=20
-knowledge representation for interactive multimedia information
content determination, integration, co-ordination and presentation.=20
-methodologies and systems for construction and maintenance of
knowledge bases for interactive multimedia systems.=20
-methodologies and systems for construction and maintenance of
interactive multimedia DBMS.=20

Target Audience

The target audience includes researchers in the areas of collaborative
systems, personal assistants, intelligent multimedia presentation
systems, adaptive interfaces, multimedia information retrieval, and
intelligent integration of information.=20

SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

Papers will be selected on the basis of a rigorous review of full paper
contributions. Authors should submit 5 copies to one of the members of
the Organizing Committee by February 16, 1998. Papers received after the
deadline will be rejected without review.=20
Decisions concerning paper acceptance will be due by March 14, 1998.=20
Final camera-ready copies of the accepted papers will be due by March
31, 1998.=20

Authors will be responsible for typesetting the accepted papers using
KR'98 style files.=20

Each submission should include a title page containing the title,
author(s), affiliation(s), submitting author's mailing address,
telephone number, fax number and e-mail address, as well as an abstract
and keywords indicating the topic areas listed above that best describe
the contribution.=20

Submissions must be at most 12 pages, excluding the title page and the
bibliography, with a maximum of 38 lines per page and an average of 75
characters per line (corresponding to the LaTeX article-style, 12pt)
using LaTeX or Microsoft Word. Papers should be sent in 5 copies.
Authors are strongly encouraged to submit their papers using email.=20
