Outline:
--------
Relational database systems are designed for robust and efficient
On-Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) on operational data. These systems
are not well suited for the sophisticated and complex decision support
activities required by many organizations for their effective management.
This has resulted in the development of new technology in the form of
a data warehouse, a separate repository that selects data from many
operational data sources and On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) tools.
These tools are designed for complex data analysis (such as multidimensional
data analysis) and decision support activities. Today, many organizations are
building, or planning to develop a data warehouse for their operational
and analytical processing needs. The successful implementation of a data warehouse
depends on data extraction, transformation and transportation tools which deliver
accurate and consistent data.

In this workshop, we invite papers discussing the research issues related to
data warehouse design, implementation, maintenance, and OLAP technology, and also
industrial expreriences on dealing with data warehousing.

The major topics of interest include but are not limited to:
------

Data Warehouse Architecture
Data Quality
Transaction Processing in Data Warehouses
Design and Maintenance of Metadata Repository
Multidimensional Data Model
Decision Support Systems
ROLAP/MOLAP Systems
Warehouse Data Maintenance
Materialized View Maintenance/Adaptation
Query Optimization
Multidimensional Query Languages
Virtual Organization
Analytical frond-end tools
Warehouse Implementation
Development of Data warehouse applications

------------------
Authors are invited to submit research contributions representing original,
previously unpublished work. Submitted papers will be carefully evaluated
based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of
exposition. All papers will be refereed by three members of the
program committee. Accepted papers will be published by IEEE Computer
Society Press as proceedings of the DEXA'98 workshops. All submitted papers
MUST be formatted according to the author guidelines provided by IEEE
Computer Society Press and MUST NOT be longer than 4000 words in double space.
We highly encourage electronic submission by email in the form of post-script file
to dwdot98@cis.unisa.edu.au.

In case if you have problem in sending by email, pl. send four hard copies
to the programme commitee chair.
