CALL FOR PAPERS
Third IFCIS Conference on Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS'98)
(In cooperation with VLDB'98)
August 20 - 22, 1998
Marriott Marquis Hotel
1535 Broadway
New York, New York 10036
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The paradigm for cooperative information systems (CISs) involves large
numbers of information systems (ISs) distributed over large, complex
computer/communication networks (e.g., Intranets, the Internet, the World
Wide Web). Such ISs will manage or have access to large amounts of
information and computing services and will need to cooperate with each
other. They will support both individual and collaborative human work.

The Third IFCIS International Conference on Cooperative Information Systems
(CoopIS'98) is the premier event in Cooperative Information Systems. It is
sponsored by the International Foundation on Cooperative Information Systems
(IFCIS), and replaces the erstwhile international workshops on
Interoperability in Multidatabase Systems (IMS) and the conference series on
Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS & ICICIS).

Submitted papers should address cooperation and interoperability among
information systems. Specific topics related to the theoretical and
practical aspects of cooperative information systems may include (but are
not limited to) the following:

* Advanced transaction models * Information resource discovery
* Agents for cooperative information
management * Integration and interoperability
* Business process modeling and
reengineering * Legacy data access and management
* Communication subsystems and
infrastructure * Mediators, wrappers, negotation
* Digital libraries * Metadata use and management
* Distributed AI * Multiagent systems
* Distributed object management * Multimedia information systems
* Electronic commerce * Mobile databases
* Federated databases and
multidatabases * Semantic interoperability
* GIS and spatial databases * Workflow modeling and management
* Information and data modeling

Papers should not be longer than 5000 words. Industrial papers should
describe technical or key business issues in applying the relevant
technology, which should highlight aspects of cooperation and
interoperation. Submissions should be unpublished and not under
consideration by another conference or journal. Panel proposals should
address leading-edge research issues in cooperative information systems. See
the CoopIS'98 Web Site (www.kean.edu/~mhalper/coopis98.html) for submission
details.

Proposals, requests or suggestions for panels should be sent to the panel
chair. We welcome suggestions for panels that would make CoopIS'98
compelling to you and the CoopIS community.
