The Computer Science Department of the University of California,
Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position in systems. We are interested in candidates with
expertise in building computer systems and with research experience
in one or more of the following areas: distributed systems, parallel
systems, database systems (especially, distributed or heterogeneous
databases), storage systems, operating systems, and compilers. The
successful candidate is expected to maintain a quality research program
and teach at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

The Computer Science Department of UCSC has strong M.S. and Ph.D. programs
with approximately 75 graduate students. Moreover, it cooperates closely
with the Computer Engineering Department of UCSC, which has a roughly equal
number of graduate students. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and
Electrical Engineering are now part of the newly established Jack Baskin
School of Engineering. Research and instruction are supported by excellent
computing facilities and state-of-the-art laboratories. UCSC is entering
an exciting phase of expansion in engineering, aimed at areas that will
be in great demand in the next decade. Additional programs planned for
the near future within the school of engineering include applied mathematics
and statistics, software engineering, engineering management, and molecular
biotechnology engineering. UCSC is the University of California campus
nearest to "Silicon Valley" and has close research ties with the local
computer industry.
