We invite applications for the position (pre- or post-doc) of a

Scientific Employee (Wiss. Mitarbeiter(in) BAT IIa)

The appointee will be expected to participate in one or several
projects related to the development of multimedia databases,
GIS, distributed databases, databases for software development
environments and database interfaces. Our equipment consists of
a large number of SPARCstation (SunOS and Solaris) and
Linux-PCs, plus several dual processor servers and an ATM
cluster with ~20 high-end PCs. Applicants should have a very
good knowledge of databases and/or software engineering.

The initial appointment will be for up to three years (starting
1.1.1998). The salary is determined by rules of the
`Bundesangestelltentarif' (BAT); it depends on the age, the
marital status and other factors and ranges typically from 65 to
75 thousand Deutsche Mark (gross; it is subject to income taxe
and contributions to national insurance). Additional
