University of Colorado at Boulder
Department of Computer Science

Applications are invited for one or two tenure-track faculty positions in
Computer Science. Although we are especially interested in applicants in the
general area of software and systems (software engineering, operating
systems, programming languages, networks, database systems, and related
areas), applications in all areas of Computer Science will be considered.
Applicants should show strong promise in research and teaching, and will be
expected to have completed a PhD degree by the time of the appointment.

Positions are authorized at the Assistant Professor level, but upgrades to
more senior levels may be possible if exceptionally qualified candidates
apply, especially candidates who would strengthen the department's gender,
ethnic, or cultural diversity.

The Computer Science Department at the University of Colorado has 24 faculty
and about 170 graduate students. It has strong research programs in
artificial intelligence, human computer interaction, numerical and parallel
computation, software and systems, and theoretical computer science. The
Department is the recipient of three consecutive five-year Institutional
Infrastructure grants from the NSF that support its computing infrastructure
and collaborative research among its faculty. Consequently, the computing
environment is well-equipped, with good facilities for experimental computer
science.

Applicants should send a current curriculum vitae and the names of four
references to Professor Richard Byrd, Search Committee Chair, Department of
Computer Science, Campus Box 430, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO
80309-0430. One-page statements of research and teaching interests would
also be appreciated. Review of applications will begin on January 1, 1998,
and applications received by that date will get first consideration.
Appointment can begin as early as August 1998.

The University of Colorado at Boulder is committed to diversity and equality
in education and employment.
