POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS AVAILABLE FOR RESEARCH
ON MUSEUM ACTIVE HYPERMEDIA DELIVERY SYSTEMS

The NAtional CEnter for Sciences Information Systems (NACSIS, Japan)
has openings for post-doctoral studies in the area of MUSEUM Active
Hypermedia Systems under an international cooperation project.
Of particular interests are the subject of image and hypermedia
processing and query optimization algorithms (based on neural networks)
and data structures for Hypermedia DBMS in the context of the Phasme
DBMS (application-oriented DBMS).

This project is a 3-year research project between the Museum Research
Laboratory (Le Louvre, France), The Western Art Museum (Japan) and
The NACSIS (Japan). This project has some cooperations with the MENHIR
ESPRIT project.

Post-doctoral studies are funded by the European Commission under the
specific programme of research, technological development and
demonstration in the field of cooperation with third countries and
international organizations.

Perspective candidates (meeting the listed requirements below) can
apply for appointments which are preceded by intensive training in
japanese, and have a maximun duration of 18 months.

THESE REQUIREMENTS ARE IMPOSED BY THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CANDIDATES

The perspective candidate

+ must be less than 35 years of age at the time of the appointment
at the hosting institution;

+ must be a holder of a doctoral degree;

+ must be a national of a Member State of the European Community;

INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATIONS

Applications must include the following information:

a) Contact addresses, including home and office Phone numbers and

b) Personal Information, such as date of birth;

c) Educational background (including dates, institutions and grade
or class; the candidate must also state explicitly what kind of
position he/she applies for, i.e., doctoral student or post-
doctoral researcher);

d) Research experience, including a list of publications;

e) A proposal for the research activity that the candidate intends
to carry out;

f) The appointment will start in december 1998 or in January 1999, and
must finish at latest 21 months later but further constraints
may apply for each offered grant according to the Japanese
training)

g) Names and addresses of three referees (including telephone num-
bers and email addresses);

h) A declaration by the candidate stating that he/she meets the
above requirements.
