Changes to the Editorial Board of VLDB Journal
==============================================

The VLDB Journal has a policy of renewing annually its editorial board
by retiring one quarter of its editors and welcoming new ones. In
accordance with this policy, six editors are retiring this year, in
addition to Jim Gray (Microsoft Corporation, USA), one of the
journal's editors-in-chief.

On behalf of the editorial board and the database community we wish to
thank Jim for his tremendous contribution in making the VLDB journal
one of the finest international forums for publishing research and
development works on database systems. During his tenure, Jim played a
central role in defining directions for the journal, improving its
quality and streamlining refereeing and publication procedures.

We are pleased to announce a worthy successor to Jim in the person of
Tamer Ozsu (University of Alberta, Canada.) Tamer has been an active
and highly visible researcher in the database community. He is
currently serving on several editorial boards of international
journals and is an elected trustee of the VLDB Endowment.

We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the other outgoing
editors for their volunteer contribution of both time and
expertise. The stature of the VLDB journal is founded on such
contributions of past and present members of the editorial board.
Many thanks to: Michel Adiba (IMAG-LGI, France), Georg Gottlob
(Technical University of Vienna, Austria), Peter Gray (University of
Aberdeen, UK), Tadao Ichikawa (Hirishima University, Japan), Antoni
Olive (Universitat Politecnica Catalunya, Spain), and Gunter
Schlageter (University of Hagen, Germany).

Finally a word of welcome to our new editors: Rakesh Agrawal (IBM,
USA), Yannis Ioannidis (University of Athens, Greece), Timos Sellis
(Technical University of Athens, Greece), Phil Bernstein (Microsoft
Corporation, USA), Hiroshi Ishikawa Fujitsu, Japan), Wolfgang Klas
(University of Ulm, Germany), and Michele Missikoff (ISAI-CNR,
Italy). We are looking forward to working with them and wish them best
of luck in their editorial duties.
