We are organizing a Concurrent Engineering Symposium to be held in Detroit
February 23-26, 1998 and being sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers
(SAE). The details of this symposium are being sent to you as an attachment to this letter.
I cordially invite you to submit an abstract of about 200 to 300 words at your earliest
possible convenience. We are also planning to publish a proceedings for this symposium.
In the event that you are not interested in submitting a paper, I invite you to become a
member of the Industrial Panel. If possible, we require that you send the title of your talk
with an abstract of 200 to 300 words.
Since the deadline for submitting abstracts (or atleast the title) is September 15, 1997, your immediate
attention will be highly appreciated. For instructions on preparing your written paper

CONCURRENT ENGINEERING SYMPOSIUM
A New Emerging Technology Track for

1998 SAE International Congress and Exposition,
February 23-26, 1998
Cobo Center/Exhibition Center, Detroit, Michigan, USA.

A Concurrent Engineering Symposium sponsored by Emerging Technology Committee of the SAE is to
be held in February of 1998 as a part of the 1998 SAE International Congress and Exposition. The
purpose of the symposium is to bring together the state of the art developments in CE, concurrent design
and developments of the products, and bringing product to market faster, at a less cost and better quality.
The products include both the manufacturable and non-manufacturable products (such as service, etc.).
The symposium will bring together individuals both in the industrial and academic environments
specializing in areas spanning total life cycle technology, manufacturing engineering, passenger car,
automobile body, engines, materials, passenger car and marine technology including systems
engineering, management science, and industrial engineering. The topics of interest include but not
limited to:
