LECTURERS/SENIOR LECTURERS
FACULTY OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
MONASH UNIVERSITY

The initial appointments will be within the Faculty of Computing and
Information Technology. The appointees will be associated with
the Department of Computer Technology. The Department has
made rapid progress in the last three years in teaching and
research in the technological areas of information technology.
The main areas of current research are database systems, distributed
computing, information and image retrieval, mobile computing
and network technology. There is an expanding interest in the area
of multimedia, document image databases, user interfaces and computer
security. The faculty seeks to appoint academic staff members
in the area of information technology, with possible specialisation
in one or more of the above research areas. Essential criteria for selection
includes a Ph.D, or equivalent, in the area of computing, with
an outstanding research and publication record.
The faculty will be reorganising its structure to ensure that
it continues to address the Computing and Information Technology
needs of the community, and it is possible that the
Department of Computer Technology may be modified in terms of
its name and cover a wide range of activities.
The Department teaches subjects at various campuses of
the University and the appointees will be expected to teach
at more than one campus. Appointments for 3 years.

Salary Range A$43,042 - $51,113 p.a - Lecturer
A$52,726 - $60,797 p.a.- Senior Lecturer

Location: Caulfield campus, Melbourne

Appointments will be made at a level appropriate to the successful
applicants' qualifications and experience, in accordance with
the academic award of classification standards for each level.

LECTURER, Level B/C

Line of Responsibility:
Lecturer, Level B/C Head, Department of Computer Technology.
Dean, Faculty of Computing and Information Technology

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop and present Computer Technology subjects in the on-campus
delivery mode (not necessarily restricted to the Caulfield Campus),
with responsibility for associated subject administration including
assessment, co-ordination of other teaching staff involved, and
liaison with other FCIT departments relating to service teaching.
2. Supervise final year project students and, in line with expertise,
honours year projects and post graduate research students.
3. Review and contribute to the ongoing development of existing
individual subjects and courses offered by this Department.
4. Contribute to research in line with this Department and
Faculty priorities and individual collaborations.
5. Be involved in the professional aspects of the discipline of
computing, including professional societies, short courses
and consultancy activities as appropriate.
6. Contribute to the administration of the Department and the
Faculty through participation in Department and/or
University Committees, student academic counselling and
by carrying out such duties as
may be allocated by the Head of Department.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential:

1. PhD or equivalent qualification in the area of Computing
and Information Technology.
2. Experience in developing courses and/or teaching at a tertiary level.
3. Capacity to teach effectively in the area of database systems,
distributed computing, information and image retrieval,
mobile computing and network technology.
There is an expanding interest in the area
of multi media, document image databases, user interfaces,
groupware and computer security within the Department.
4. At least five years of teaching/research experience, or
other relevant professional experience, since first graduation.

Desirable:

1. Industry experience in Computing and Information Technology.
2. Experience in supervision of candidates for higher degree by research.
3. A record of professional development activities in
tertiary computing education.
4. Experience in the development and delivery of computer and
information technology subjects.
