Digital Media Information Base
(DMIB'97)

With rapid growth of computer and communication technologies,
creation, modification and distribution of digital multimedia
information has become easier than ever. Such multimedia information includes
still images, video, audio, texts as well as artifacts in virtual space.
Efficient storage of high-quality information and high speed access to it
is crucial to today's many organizations.

The purpose of this symposium is to provide an international forum for
researchers and engineers to present and discuss on various aspects of
digital media information base with special emphasis on extension to
and/or new applications of database system technologies.

The symposium site is located at the central part of the beautiful ancient
city of Nara, close to Todaiji temple.

Important Dates

September 22, 1997 Notification of Acceptance
October 17, 1997 Camera Ready Copy Due

Accepted papers will appear in the Proceedings.
There is a plan to invite authors of selected papers to submit an extended
version for possible publication in a special issue of IEICE Transactions on
Information and Systems.
(IEICE -- The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication
Engineers, a Japanese academic society with 40,000 members)

Paper Submission

There are two categories of papers: long (up to 4000 words) and short
(up to 2000 words). Some papers submitted as long papers might be possibly
accepted as short papers.

Please send a PostScript copy OR four hardcopies of original papers

Each e-mail should include:
- an abstract in ASCII text (the format can be found in our web page),
followed by
- a paper in ("gzip"ed and "uuencode"d) PostScript file.
(Color PostScript files are not accepted.)
Note: If we cannot print out submitted PostScript file, we ask authors
to re-send papers by fax and/or express airmail.

Hardcopy submission:
- An abstract in ASCII text (the format can be found in our web page)
should be sent, via e-mail, to:
