(DBWORLD) 4th Annual Object Application Awards

This may of interest to those working on interoperability, distributed
systems, large-scale persistent systems, etc. Past winners of these OMG
awards have included academic institutions.

Invitation for Entries: 4th Annual Object Application Awards
------------------------------------------------------------

Object World Frankfurt '97 will take place on 7-10 October 1997, together
with COMDEX Internet at the Sheraton Conference Centre Frankfurt/Main
(details at http://www.ltt.de).

One of the highlights of the show will be the fourth edition of the annual
OMG International Object Application Awards. These will be given in four
categories:

1. Best implementation of a distributed application using object
technology.
2. Best application utilising reusable components leveraged from
or for use in other projects.
3. Best use of object technology within enterprise or large system
environments.
4. Best application combining object technology and the internet.

A distinguished panel of judges, chaired by Professor Roberto Zicari of
OMG Central Europe, will determine the winners through a nomination
process. Applications must meet the following qualifications:

o An application built from scratch or
o A modification of an off-the-shelf application or
o An object-oriented front-end for a host application.

Production applications and/or documented and demonstrable working
prototypes are acceptable.

Previous winners at OWF '96 were:

ABB (Germany)
debis Systemhaus (Germany)
Deutsche Bahn AG (Germany)
Motorola (USA)
Sabre Decision Technologies (USA)

Entrants for the Object Application Awards must call for an official entry
kit. All entries must be received by 10 September 1997. Entrants will be
asked to detail:

o Goals of the application
o Problems encountered
o Key benefits realised
