CALL FOR PAPERS

Information Modeling Methods and Methodologies
-- Evaluation Techniques

Part of the Modeling Technologies and Intelligent Systems Track of the
Thirty-first Annual Hawai'i International Conference on Systems Sciences
(HICSS)
Big Island of Hawaii, HI - January 6 - 9, 1998
http://www.cba.hawaii.edu/hicss

Papers are invited for the minitrack on Information Modeling Methods and
Methodologies -- Evaluation Techniques as part of the Modeling Technologies
and Intelligent Systems Track at the Hawaii International Conference on
System Sciences (HICSS).

The minitrack focuses on the evaluation of modeling methods and
methodologies. The aim of this minitrack is to become a premier
presentation forum for the exchange of latest ideas and results in the area
of evaluation of modeling techniques. In recent years, we have witnessed
the proliferation of a number of new systems development paradigms and
methods. Examples of these include the object-oriented analysis and design
methods, and business process reengineering methods. New paths and
directions in modeling techniques, such as the idea of creating one common
"best" OO approach in the Unified Modeling Language and OPEN method, were
also introduced and proposed. There is, therefore, a need for improvement
in the analysis of these information modeling methods and methodologies, and
in understanding their use and functionality. This minitrack seeks to find
new innovative research streams and ideas on the nature of research methods
and techniques to understand, compare, and evaluate modeling techniques.

Relevant topics for this minitrack include:
(i) Theoretical foundations for evaluating modeling methods and
methodologies
(ii) Evaluation techniques for
-- Information Modeling
-- Software Engineering
-- Business Process Re-engineering
-- Object-Oriented Modeling
-- Requirements Engineering
-- Enterprise Modeling
-- Data Modeling
(iii) Reports on evaluation results
-- Theoretical evaluation (i.e., analytical approach)
-- Experimental studies (i.e., laboratory or field studies)
-- Case studies
(iv) Advanced application of modeling techniques:
-- Suitability of modeling methods to support emerging
technologies such as WWW,
Visual Programming, Client/Server development
-- Method support for reuse, frameworks, reference models and
component based
software modeling
-- Metamodeling

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING PAPERS:

1. Submit 6 (six) copies of the full paper, consisting of 20 - 25 pages
double-spaced including title page, abstract, references, and diagrams
directly to the minitrack coordinator Dr. Keng Siau.

2. Do not submit the paper to more than one minitrack. The paper should
contain original material and not be previously published or currently
submitted for consideration elsewhere.

3. Each paper must have a title page which includes the title, full name of
all authors, and their complete addresses including affiliation(s),
telephone number(s) and e-mail address(es).

4. The first page of the paper should include the title and a 300-word
abstract.

DEADLINE:

June 1, 1997: Full papers submitted to the appropriate minitrack chair
Aug. 31, 1997: Notification of accepted papers mailed to authors.
Oct. 1, 1997: Accepted manuscripts, camera-ready, sent to minitrack
chair; author(s) must register
by this time.
Nov. 15, 1997: All other registrations must be received. Registrations
received after this deadline
may not be accepted due to space limitations.
