XII BRAZILIAN SYMPOSIUM ON DATABASE SYSTEMS - SBBD'97

Fortaleza, CE - BRAZIL
October 13-15, 1997

FINAL CALL FOR TUTORIALS

>>>>>>>>>>>>>> WEB PAGE: http://www.lia.ufc.br/~sbbd97 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
INTRODUCTION

The Program Committee of the XII Brazilian Symposium on Databases solicits
tutorial proposals. Unlike it was done in previous issues of the Symposium,
each tutorial will be presented in a 3 hrs section. The language used can
be Portuguese, English or Spanish.

The PC will consider proposals for advanced and basic tutorials, always
within the area of databases. Advanced tutorials must show the state-of-the
art of the topic covered and motivate and expose potential research issues.
The instructor material (e.g., slides) should be in English. As for basic
tutorials the proponent should aim an audience made of advanced undergrad
graduate students, as well as people from industry. As such, basic
tutorials can be thought of as "recycling" courses, but not trivial ones.

Traditionally the Symposium covers travel and lodging expenses for one
author of accepted tutorials, always subject to funding availability.

NOTE: The Program Committee of the XII Brazilian Symposium on Databases
reserves the right to invite tutorials, which will not be subject to the
selection process this call for tutorials refers to. The Committee also
reserves the right to not select any of the submitted proposals.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

consideration).
* Author's qualifications (1 paragraph for each author).

Proposals should be sent via e-mail, in a plain text file (no postcript,
latex, etc) to the < Tutorial Coordinator . If using email is not possible

FORTALEZA

Fortaleza stands by the sea, it's hot and sunny. The temperatures (in
Celsius) in the city of Fortaleza range from 20 C (winter) to 35-45 C
(summer), and there is a nice and constant breeze blowing from the Atlantic
ocean. The city is clean and if you love beaches you will find paradisiac
ones, with white sand and green water. The nights in Fortaleza are
wonderful if you love to listen to live music, eat good fish meals, talk to
people, and feel the sea breeze on your face.

The population is around 1.8 million people, the people are nice and
friendly. We have an an airport with daily connections to the main cities
in Brazil (it's one hour flight to Recife where you have international
connections). Finally Fortaleza has, in the technical area, 3 universities:
Federal University of Ceara, which is responsible for both SBBD and SBES,
University of Fortaleza, and Ceara State University.
