Genomic Database R&D Position

Affymetrix, a fast-growing biotechnology company, is applying its
proprietary high-density DNA probe array technology to the study of human
genetic diversity and the mapping and identification of genes which
participate in human diseases. This project is an interdisciplinary
effort involving molecular biologists, geneticists, statisticians and
outside collaborators. The candidate will be responsible for designing
and developing the database software to support this effort. The
database will integrate experimental data and analysis results
(discovery, genotyping and expression experiments), with sample data
(e.g. pedigree, population, phenotype) and gene data (e.g. sequence, map
location, metabolic pathway, biochemical function) in a manner capable of
supporting the genomics challenges of the future.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a degree in CS/EE (Ph.D. or
M.Sc.), be highly motivated, and have expertise in user-interface design
and database development. Familiarity with bioinformatics, molecular
biology, and data analysis are assets.
