INTRODUCTION

The Brazilian Symposium on Database Systems (SBBD) is an annual event
sponsored by the Special Commission on Databases of the Brazilian Computer
Society (SBC). Its main purposes are the dissemination of the research work
in Databases, and to provide an environment for the interchange of
experiences and knowledge among researchers and practitioners in that
field. The XII SBBD will be held at Fortaleza and supported by Federal
University of Ceara, from 13 to 15 October.

The Symposium will contain Technical sessions, international talks, basic
and advanced tutorials, panels involving academics, manufacturers and
users, exhibitions of commercial products in the database domain. Also, as
traditional, The XI Brazilian Symposium on Software Engineering will be
held at the same place from 15 to 17 October; both events are coordinated
by the same organizing committee.

Authors are encouraged to submit papers describing relevant, original and
unpublished research or experience works, as well as tutorials, related
(but not restricted to) the following topics:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Authors should send 4 copies of the full paper, limited to 15 pages to the
Symposium's General Chair. Papers must not be submitted simultaneously to
another conference and/or publication in a Journal, nor should it have
already been published elsewhere. Submissions must be sent to the address
below (no E-mail or Fax submissions are allowed). Submission of a paper is
assumed to imply that at least of the authors will register for the
conference and thus present the paper.

The criteria for judgment are originality, relevance, technical soundness
and clarity of presentation.

Papers must be written in Portuguese, Spanish or English, and printed in A4
format (21,0 cm x 29,7 cm), with top margin 3,5 cm, bottom margin 2,0 cm
and side margins 2,5 cm. They must be printed preferably with 12 points
roman fonts and include title, information of all authors (name,
institution, address, fax number and e-mail ), a short abstract (150
words), and keywords. Proceedings will be printed reduced by 70%, so small

FORTALEZA

Fortaleza stands by the sea, it's hot and sunny. The temperatures (in
Celsius) in the city of Fortaleza range from 20 C (winter) to 35-45 C
(summer), and there is a nice and constant breeze blowing from the Atlantic
ocean. The city is clean and if you love beaches you will find paradisiac
ones, with white sand and green water. The nights in Fortaleza are
wonderful if you love to listen to live music, eat good fish meals, talk to
people, and feel the sea breeze on your face.

The population is around 1.8 million people, the people are nice and
friendly. We have an an airport with daily connections to the main cities
in Brazil (it's one hour flight to Recife where you have international
connections). Finally Fortaleza has, in the technical area, 3 universities:
Federal University of Ceara, which is responsible for both SBBD and SBES,
University of Fortaleza, and Ceara State University.
