The KRAFT project is an exciting new project in Constraint Knowledge Fusion
from distributed sources involving Aberdeen, Cardiff and Liverpool
universities and BT, and coordinated by Professor P.M.D. Gray at Aberdeen
University (see EPSRC IMPACT newsletter December 96). Full details are
available via URL http://www.csd.abdn.ac.uk/~pgray

A vacancy has arisen at Aberdeen, and we are looking for a RESEARCH FELLOW
(1A post at upto 29 age point) for two full years, starting around 1st JUNE
1997. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Computing or AI (or be writing up),
and have published research papers.

The Research Fellow is funded by EPSRC and will have overall
responsibility for the design of Mediator software in Prolog, which will
take constraint information and knowledge from facilitators at other sites
and transform it for various purposes. One of these includes sending it to
Constraint Solvers using constraint logic. Experience in using
PROLOG is essential. Understanding of Databases, Program Transformation,
Formal Logic or Constraint Logic Programming are highly desirable.

This is a team project, and the RF will be expected to work as a team
with co-investigators at Aberdeen (Dr. G.Kemp and Dr. A.Preece) and a
Research Assistant (K.Hui) who is concentrating on Constraint Logic
Programming, as well as contributing to regular consortium meetings, in order
to meet a challenging target. As a consortium, we intend to stand comparison
with related work on Knowledge-Sharing in the USA !

Aberdeen University has a long history of work in Databases and Artificial
Intelligence and has just celebrated its 500'th birthday. We are two and a
half hours from Edinburgh by rail or car, with frequent daily flights to
London and other UK and European destinations.
