POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
ON SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL DATABASE SYSTEMS

The Dept. of Computation, University of Manchester - Institute of Science
and Technology (UMIST), has an opening for a post-doc in the area of spatial
and temporal databases under the project CHOROCHRONOS.

The successful candidate is expected to work with Dr. Manolis Koubarakis
on the following topics:
(i) temporal and spatial constraint databases
(ii) constraint-based temporal and spatial reasoning
(iii) any other topic of mutual interest in the area of spatial and
temporal databases.

The position is available for 12-18 months, but shorter appointments will
also be considered. As part of this appointment, successful candidates can
spend 6 months at INRIA, Rocquencourt working with Dr. Stephane Grumbach.

Perspective candidates must meet the following requirements (as imposed by
the European Community):

1. must be less than 35 years of age at the time of the appointment.

2. must be holders of a doctoral degree.

3. must be nationals of a Member State of the European Community or of an
Associated State (Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway, Israel), but not a
national of the United Kingdom.

4. must not have carried out their normal activities in the United Kingdom
for more than 18 of the 24 months prior to the appointment.

CHOROCHRONOS is a 3-year research program funded by the European
Commission under the Training and Mobility for Researchers program.
A major goal of Training and Mobility for Researchers (TMR) networks is
to provide an excellent environment for the training of young
