DESCRIPTION

The Second IFCIS International Conference on Cooperative Information Systems
(CoopIS) is the premier event in Cooperative Information Systems. It is
sponsored by the International Foundation on Cooperative Information Systems
(IFCIS), and replaces the erstwhile international workshops on
Interoperability in Multidatabase Systems (IMS) and the conference series on
Cooperative Information Systems (CoopIS & ICICIS).

Cooperative Information Systems - the area and the conference - brings
together scientists and ideas from artificial intelligence, databases, and
distributed computing. This is the first time that CoopIS will be held in
the USA (or the Americas, although a previous incarnation of it was held
successfully in Toronto).

Topics of interest include cooperation and interoperability among all types
of information systems. Specific topics include (but are not limited to) the
theoretical and practical aspects of the following

* Information management via cooperating agents
* Federated databases and multidatabases, including the issues of legacy
data and applications, distribution, heterogeneity, autonomy, and
security.
* Multimedia information systems, including document management, metadata
for digital media, and data transformation.
* Global information systems, including information resource discovery,
information brokering, electronic/information commerce, and electronic
data interchanges.
* Business process modeling and workflow modeling and management.
* Information modeling and semantic interoperability.
* Architectural issues in the above.
* Data management issues, including collection, exchange, mining,
simulation, and animation.
* Core technologies, including DAI and multiagent systems, distributed
object management, mediators, wrappers, advanced transaction models,
negotiation, communication subsystems & infrastructure, and issues of
storage, buffering and optimization.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

Original research and industrial papers are solicited. Papers should not be
longer than 5000 words. Industrial papers should describe technical or key
business issues in applying the relevant technology, which should highlight
aspects of cooperation and interoperation. Submissions should be unpublished
and not under consideration by another conference or journal. Please submit

* a 100-200 word plain-text abstract by email to the nearest program
chair. The format for the abstract is as follows:
Title: title
Authors: name[, name]
Abstract: abstract

* six copies of the manuscript to the same program chair

Proposals for other components of the program should be sent to the
appropriate chairs (names and addresses below).
