NGITS '97

The Third International Workshop on
Next Generation Information Technologies and Systems

June 30 - July 3, 1997
Neve Ilan (near Jerusalem), ISRAEL

Main sponsors: Ben-Gurion University of the Negev
and Technion - Israel Institute of Technology

The next generation information systems will be complex, intelligent,
and cooperative, and will utilize various multimedia-media technologies.
The goal of the NGITS Workshop is to provide an international forum for
discussing issues and solutions related to next generation information
systems and the technologies that would make them possible.

Following the success of the two previous workshops that were held in 1993
and 1995, a third workshop will take place in 1997.

The workshop will feature paper sessions, panel discussions and talks by
invited speakers. All accepted papers will appear in a workshop proceedings.
Selected papers will be published in a special issue of
Data and Knowledge Engineering.

Workshop Topics
=================
The scope of the workshop includes (not exclusively) the following topics:

o Decision Support Systems: data warehousing; data mining; web querying.

o Electronic Commerce and Interoperability: security and privacy; brokering;
information integration (especially on the web); cooperation among
heterogeneous information systems; information mediation.

o Data and knowledge base systems: advanced models and languages;
data integrity and quality; management of spatial and temporal data.

o Data modeling: conceptual and logical design; modeling methods and
tools; schema integration; forward and reverse data engineering.

o Information retrieval: document and multimedia information systems;
information extraction, indexing and filtering; digital libraries.

o Human-computer interaction: user interface design, human-computer
cooperation.

o AI techniques: knowledge management; knowledge representation and
reasoning; knowledge discovery; coordination technologies and agent
architectures.

o Software engineering and information systems development: analysis and
design methods and techniques; CASE tools; object- and process-oriented
approaches; project management, software metrics and estimation.

o Management information systems: decision support systems; executive
information systems; office automation; value of information; evaluation
of information systems.

o Advanced applications: services and tools to support information
infrastructure, scientific and geographical databases; advanced
manufacturing systems; health care (medical) information systems.

We solicit contributions of three kinds:

* Full research papers
* Short position papers
* Proposals for panel discussions

All contributions must emphasize their relevance to issues of next generation
information technologies and systems, and must be addressed to an audience
of diverse background and interests.

- The category of "research papers" is intended for technical papers
describing research accomplishments.

- The category of "short position papers" is intended for papers that discuss
new challenges and visionary solutions.

- Proposals for panels should include an abstract of the subject and likely
participants.
