CALL FOR PAPERS

SPIE International Symposium
Voice, Video, & Data Communications
Conference on Performance & Control of Network System
3-7 November 1997, Dallas, Texas, USA

Special Session on
Switching and Traffic Management in High Speed Networks

Session Organizers: Mohammed Atiquzzaman, Monash University, Australia.
Bhumip Khasnabish, GTE Labs, USA.

Telecommunications in today's competitive marketplace typically involve
multiple carriers, multiple services, varied equipment from multiple vendors,
and multiple interconnected networks and network systems. The increasing
demand in bandwidth for computing and communications has given rise to high
speed networks. These networks require special types of switching and
traffic management mechanisms. This special session is intended to cover
different aspects of high speed switching, congestion control and service
interworking mechanisms. Topics include (but are not limited to):

o Switching architectures
o Buffer management
o Congestion control mechanisms
o Traffic characterization, control, measurement, models and tools
o Prototyping experience and trial results
o Scheduling algorithms
o Service interworking (Frame Relay and ATM, TCP/IP and ATM, etc.)
o Performance evaluation, scalability, reliability and availability

Authors should send the following items by email to one of the session
organizers (Hard copy of papers may be sent only if electronic submission
is impossible).

o Postscript copy of full paper.
o Plain text file containing the title of the paper, a 250-word
abstract, and the author listing (principal author first) with
full name, affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address, phone
number and fax number for each author.
