Journal of Visual Communication and Image Representation
Special Issue on
Multimedia Storage and Archiving Systems
Advances in technologies have resulted in huge archives of
sounds, images
and videos in diverse application areas such as medicine, remote
sensing,
industry engineering, entertainment, education and on-line
information
services. To exploit the full benefit of explosive growth of
information,
there is a great need in the development of efficient techniques
for the
storage, browsing, indexing, retrieval of multimedia data. This
conference
will address various aspects of multimedia information management
such as
system architecture design, data compression for archiving,
indexing and
retrieval techniques, image/video segmentation and analysis, data
modeling
and representation, and practical database applications.
Original papers are solicited in, but not limited to, the
following areas:
Multimedia (audio, image or video) databases and system
architecture design
Indexing, query, retrieval and archiving techniques
Multimedia content characterization
Video parsing, segmentation and analysis
Storage design and management
Video on demand and media servers
Long-term preservation methodology and quality assurance
management
Compression schemes supporting archiving
Actual experimental prototypes embodying the state-of-the-art
in multimedia information systems
Data transfer models for platform-independent internet access
Applications to telemedicine, remote sensing, GIS, education,
entertainment, interactive TV, CAD, digital libraries, etc.
